Michael shares his love of visual art and design by teaching at colleges and universities. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses both as a part-time and full-time professor. He is recognized by receiving several teaching awards mainly for his work as an art history instructor.

Courses taught at University of the Pacific include Medical Illustration, Illustration, Concept Design Illustration, Figure Drawing I & II, Beginning Drawing, Painting I & II, 2-D Design & Color, 3-D Design, Digital Drawing, Graphic Design III, and History of Graphic Design. He is also a founding instructor for the International Program (UOPI) at Pacific.

College courses include Art Appreciation, Art History 1A (Prehistoric - Gothic), Art History 1B (Renaissance - Post-Modern), Drawing, Painting I & II, Figure Drawing & Anatomy I & II, and 2-D Design & Color.

He also presents workshops and lectures at museums, art institutes, universities, and international conferences for students and professional illustrators.
